Wildflowers and country roads

Hello Friend! Wildflowers and Country Roads is both a reality and a state of mind. I warmly invite you to join me on my journey. A journey of showcasing my vision: the beauty my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ has bestowed on the world I love.

A Year of Gratitude - Mugs and Memories

Please join me in prayers for the precious people hit by the violent weather/tornadoes this past week.

As you can see from my header, hubby and I love to collect
MUGS from meandering around together.
This week I am going to pick two mugs each day and share some memories.

Pictures taken before Nikon and with lots less experience,
but the memories are crystal clear.
So without further ado, let's do
"Mugs and Memories" this week.
Today we are starting with two mugs from Vermont!

Do you like diners?
We love them!
This one was is even on the National Historic Register.
Want to go with us for lunch?

This was originally an old dining car turned into a diner.
As most of you know hubby loves all things "trains" so that information
just added to the "quaint experience" that to me so SO Vermont.
As some of you, I lived only 30 minutes from the Vermont border in NY state.
Once I learned to drive and had my own car, I spent weekend driving around
Vermont, talking to everyone and writing my experiences down.
So wish I had those Vermont Journals today.
Such a nice looking man, think I will take him home!

This was a delightful side trip as we meandered through Bellows Falls.

A look at the outside.
Next is our Green Mountain Railroad experience.
We have done this train ride more than once
as the entire experience is delightful and just such fun for us.

See hubby's happy grin!
He loves buying us tickets for tourist train trips.

Waiting for the train to come in.

Here it comes!

Oh look who is getting on the train!

Finding our seats

Bellows Falls (where diner is located) from the train window.

Lower Bartonsville covered bridge
Last year the flash floods from Hurricane Irene swept this bridge away.
There is dramatic footage of the bridge being swept away on YouTube.
It is heartbreaking for me to watch so I did not include a link.
Good news is that the bridge structure was covered by insurance.
However, the abutments, one severely damaged was not covered.
To raise funds for these bridges many artists have donated half their proceeds from
special commemorative painting/pictures of the bridge prior to Irene and other scenes
from beautiful Vermont.

Grammie asking Grampa if he likes this shirt for Kaylee, our princess granddaughter.
Back in 2003 when this was taken, we only had two grands and always brought them shirts
as we meandered around.
Just noticed, hehe, that back then when I was working, I had my nails done all the time.
Nope wouldn't give up retirement to get my nails done again.
Many of you who know me, know that currently we have been hit with LIFE at it's
finest with big bills to fix things.
The issue is that everything seemed to break at the same time.
Yikes.........
So no trips for awhile, perhaps until Fall or later.
I do praise the Lord, he is taking care of our needs and finding us just the right people
or equipment to fix everything right up, one issue at a time.
Compared to those who were hit, some for the second time in 10 months,
by those devastating tornadoes last week
how could I "whine" about missing a trip when I have our home to snuggle in at night?
When hubby and I are healthy, my family is safe etc.
Please join me in praying for those who have lost so much.

Looking down into the gorge from the train window.
The rock formation looks like a huge alligator with one eye.

At night we stayed in Chester, VT
at Motel in the Meadow.
This was Oct 2003 and as you could see in some photos it was cold enough for Terry to
wear his jacket.
One of the nights we stayed here, the power went off in the middle of the night
and it was COLD, especially for Floridians like us.
(of course those of you who know me well, know I LOVE COLD, to a point!)

I have tons of pictures of Vermont, all around the state.
I believe once I have done" Mugs and Memories", I will then do,
"Around Vermont" for 5 posts.
Would you be interested in seeing more of Vermont?

I hope you are enjoying memories on the back roads of my mind this week.

From my heart to yours, may your day be blessed.
Lynn

Oh, thanks so much for sharing this.
I have been without a computer for a while but my hubby got me a little back up, so now I get to be online again!

I have spent time in my younger days in those areas you have highlighted in this post so I found it very enjoyable. My hubby and I bought our first tea cup at an antique store somewhere near the train ride area--it may have been bellows Falls.,.,.not sure. Anyways it was nice to see the pics. I love old diners--the food channel has a series that visits diners which is fun.

Hello There, Since I've been away from blogging for a week, I have alot of catching up to do. We had a wonderful trip to Arkansas --but it's great to visit with my blog friends. Hope things are going well with you.

Excellent post... I love reading and seeing other people's travel photos. We were going to Vermont last Fall --and then the storm hit up there and they lost all of those bridges. SO--we didn't go... One year, we want to go...

Love seeing your mug collection. We picked up a couple of mugs at Mt. Nebo this year (instead of shirts). These mugs are special though since George's photo on the mug was chosen for them to use. Neat, huh???
Hugs,
Betsy

First...thanks so much for coming by. I am linking up to follow you.:)

I LOVE old diners...and love taking trips on trains. I grew up taking a train trip to Dallas every summer to spend time with my daddy. Given the olden age I am, I remember well the dining car with white tablecloths on ea table and flowers in a little vase. I remember the beautiful rest room the trains had...with lovely benches and mirrors...an attendant lady, offering your a small CLOTH towel to dry your hands, a spray of perfume, OH MY....what delightful memories.
And, like you, I'd give all I own to ride the train just ONE MORE TIME to see my daddy.
Now, I am in such a blue mood, missing all my family so I better either go thrifting or make a banana split.
OR....a coke float from a coke IN THE BOTTLE.

Hi Lynn! What a wonderful trip and beautiful pictures! It sure looks like you had a great time. You have a great mug collection. Tony and I love going to Maine. We have been three times. The leaves their in autumn are amazing. More beautiful than anything I had ever pictured. What a neat diner too! I have never seen one made of wood. Back home in California all the old ones were white with lots of chrome and red sparkly vinyl seats. Somehow a milkshake always tastes better in a diner! I hope both you and Terry have a lovely and restful evening ahead and thank you for all of the kind comments you leave on my blog. It is always such a joy to see them pop up. Until next time... Delisa :)
