Come along with me as I travel the country roads of my heart. Since August 2010 been loving my life hanging out with hunky hubby and going to the grands ball games year round here on the Gulf Coast of FL. Never without my Nikon to showcase the beauty of this world the Lord has blessed us with. Yes, I know it is all not beauty, but choose to focus on the goodness and beauty and just give all the rest to Him in prayer. My photography is the world I see from my heart, always will have a romantic slant as I am a romantic dreamer to the core. I am so glad you have stopped by. Like my beloved wildflowers, I don't do well with too much structure and love my hair blowin in the wind, so my blog is best described as eclectic with a heart for my Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

A Year of Gratitude - Music of French Quarter

Good morning!
Sorry my blog disappeared off the radar yesterday!
In trying to set up a SECOND blog, I messed this one up.
More about my second blog tomorrow.
No, Wildflowers and Country Roads is NOT going away.
I will have two very different blogs.

Hopefully, you are able to view this today without issues.

The French Quarter means many things to many people.
I had been without sounds for 13 years and due to the cochlear implant
that was embedded in my head that "talks" to my exterior computer
in Oct/Nov of 1999
our trips to the French Quarter, starting in 2000 thru 2004
and then again last year for the first time since Katrina,
have been so much about the music, the jazz Terry and I are passionate about.

Our first trip was January 1, 2000 but so much was closed for the holiday,
we went back in April.
Our visits coincided with our son being in the Air Force, first in Lackland, TX
and then Biloxi, MS.
We fell so in love with both the French Quarter and Biloxi that after my son
was stationed at another base, Terry and I continued our trips to MS/LA.

These are some of our favorite memories of the blessings of awesome Jazz!

Did not get this gentlemen's name,
So much talent abounds in the Quarter.

I could be mixing up this gentleman below, but I hope not.
Another gracious, talent and regretably I did not write down his name at the time.
I was so blown away, teary eyed because I had missed music more than I knew
until I heard it again in the Quarter.

Our favorite no frills, pure delightful jazz club.
We spend every night we are in the Quarter her from about 8-midnight when they close.
They open around 3pm, but we have dinner first and then enjoy jazz until closing.

Dwayne Burns
and his New Orleans Band

Jamie Wight
with either New Orleans Joymakers or
Portage Jazz Band of New Orleans (2004)
We have all the current cd's of all the bands we have heard in person while at Maison Bourbon
In fact, I have my portable cd player and walk to Jamie's jazz cd.
What a fantastic way to exercise!

I believe this talented gentleman is Hack Bartholomew.
Such a gracious, talented gentlemen who serenaded me when hubby
told him I was hearing music again after 13 years of deafness.
What a blessing this gentleman was to our trip.
I do hope I have remembered his name correctly.

NOTE: Last February we heard Dwayne Burns and Jamil Sharif.
In fact, we stayed another night because we so wanted to hear Jamil again.
The only band we did not hear after Katrina was Jaimie's and if
anyone is reading this and knows where Jamie plays now please advise us before December
as we hope to be back in the Quarter then for more awesome jazz.

The night we heard Jamil, we used our cell phone as it was very
close to Fat Tuesday and I did not want to have my Nikon with me.
There are even pictures somewhere I took of Terry with Jamil.
No, Terry did not perform, hehe
I will say, he is multi talented but singing/playing jazz is not his forte.

From my heart to yours, may your day be blessed.
Lynn

Great pictures! And glad to see that the men in the band are all dressed up and wearing suits, too! Have you ever thought of moving there?

Hi Lynn, love the pictures! It looks like you had a wonderful adventure. I love the French Quarter too. I have only been once, but I had a perfect time. Tony had to go for a business trip to giant electronic trade show and I got to go with him. Because the company booked him at the very last minute the only place that had a room was the Royal Omni in the French Quarter! Oh my it beautiful, crystal and red roses everywhere. It turned out that all the company big wigs and their were wives were staying there and the hotel had many wonderful trips set up for the wives while the men went to the show. And because Tony worked for the company I was included. Little old me! So I showed up in the morning with my camera excited as all get out to go on a special tour of the city and sadly none of the other wives came or even called the hotel desk! The driver was quite upset as she had planned so many nice things. I told her that I understood that it had to be canceled and thanked her for all of her thoughtful preparations. She said "Oh no, I'm not canceling it, you are going to get a private grand tour!" So it was just me and this sweet lady and she took me everywhere, we had wonderful walks all over the city, stopped for lunch at a charming cafe, saw everything there was to see and then I went with her to watch her daughter try on some wedding dresses. It was one of my happiest days. Have a wonderful sunday ahead Lynn, I'm looking forward to seeing the new blog! Delisa :)
