Wildflowers and country roads

Hello Friend! Wildflowers and Country Roads is both a reality and a state of mind. I warmly invite you to join me on my journey. A journey of showcasing my vision: the beauty my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ has bestowed on the world I love.

A Year of Gratitude - Dust!

Good evening.
Well I started working on my blog 12 hours ago.
One thing lead to another and here I am just getting back to work on it again.

Oh it has been a hilarious day here.

As some of you may or may not know, along with my own Year of Gratitude,
I am also doing The JOY DARE, one thousand gifts in 2012.
You can locate my list (sans pictures) on my sidebar under JOY DARE.

Well today it was:
3 gifts you saw only when you got close up.

Get what my gift is today?

DUST.

I love to start my day photographing the light hitting my chandelier over my
kitchen sink, or the crystals on several lamps or the "candle" chandy over my computer.

I was so excited today when the rays were showing "purple/pink".
Can you see that in the picture?
Bet you can also see the DUST too.

I did NOT see this through my lens, only when I enlarged the photo.

Then I started looking at other photos and found more DUST on my large mirror
on the hearth of our fireplace!

So you can see my first obstacle, dusting!

Before I sat down again to work on the blog, I decided to make the new recipe I tried
earlier this week.

A yummy black bean, tomato, green pepper, onion concoction
served over brown rice.
I love bean dishes. Loving hubby not so much.
But this one he liked.
That is a gift right there!
We ate it twice this past week and I wanted to make more for the weekend
to have on hand.
The pepper, onion, garlic had cooked nicely in the skillet.
Poured in the can of diced tomatoes, the beans and was about to measure the
veggie broth when I made a MISTAKE and SHOOK the container!
Now I don't even know if anyone shakes it before using but my mother always
shook everything, so it is ingrained in me to do the same.
SURPRISE!
I had forgotten I had partly opened the top and you guessed it,
the stove, the counter, my shirt were generously speckled with veggie broth!

Know what I did next?

LAUGHED OUT LOUD.
Thanked Him for the gift of dust and messes.
Kept chuckling as I cleaned up.
It was not life shattering, just messy, and finally all cleaned up again.
While the mixture was simmering on the stove
I laundered our sheets, vacuumed and tidied up.

After lunch we went to one of my favorite places,
our library's thrift shop.
Look what I found for all of $4.50!

4 cooking light magazines and 1 Vegetarian magazine
$.25 each
and
Moosewood  Restaurant
Low - fat favorites.
cookbook for
$3.00!!
It is like brand new. Regularly $22.00.
Anyone else have the Moosewood Restaurant cookbooks?

I am learning that the more gratitude I have for the small aspects of
my days and my life,
the richer my life becomes in ways that while still small
are none the less gifts in themselves.

Since it is Friday night,
I wish you joy and beauty in unexpected places this weekend.
Come back anytime and share your world with me by leaving a comment
about how life is blessing you.
or send me a private email and share a prayer request.
My heart would love to be able to add your requests to my prayer journal.
Together we can Praise and Pray.

I will be back posting as usual this weekend.

From my heart to yours, may your day be blessed. Lynn

How great you can laugh even when things go bad. You kind of have life beat when you have a good attitude. I never thought of dust as a gift, 'cause I am very allergic to it! But since we are made of dust...that is a strange malady, don't you think?

Hi Lynn, I have to say the veggie broth shake, really gave me a smile. Years ago when my mother-in-law first moved in with us I was making spaghetti. She came into the kitchen and thought she would help by opening one end of the big box of spaghetti. So later when I came back in I didn't know the box was open and when I picked to open the other end...you guessed, all the spaghetti spilled out all over the kitchen floor like pick up sticks. My mom in law came rushing in expecting I would be mad, but I started laughing and she did too and before we knew it we were both holding our sides. Laughter is almost always the best solution! :) Have a great day! Delisa ;)
